Werewolves are real and they dwell in Scotland; vampires are also real and they are everywhere, and Natalie has. no. idea.
Natalie is having the worst day. She lost a promotion to the CEO's son's bit of fluff, then she finds that same bit of fluff in her boyfriend's bed. She realizes two things she's unhappy and she hates accounting. Her dad is ill, she has the headache from Hell, and all she wants is a stiff drink.
That decision is going to lead to much worse.
*Gavin is an alpha male, however this novel is a sweet romance, and does not contain explicit sexual content.

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Kindle Scout.)The book had potential and then the author went a completely different direction. The h wasn't very likeable, kept getting into situations over and over again that could've been prevented if she just would've communicated with people instead of running off on her own. One of my pet peeves with authors these days is the big cliffhanger and it's to the point unless the complete series is out or soon to be published, I am hesitant to read a cliffhanger because by the time the follow-up book is published, I've forgotten the characters, the storyline... So this book is a huge cliffy and the author tries to justify this by saying on goodreads there was just too much information, too much happening to put in a single book. Fine; however, there is no indication if or when the next book will be published.

Die By Night edition by Kaitlynn Aisling Romance eBooks Reviews
I received a free e-copy of the book in the Scout program when nominating the book, which was selected for publication. The excerpt for the story was so intriguing, but the whole book left me with many more questions, especially why the need for a book 2 and the cliffhanger. Most the middle to the book which dragged on could have been eliminated. We know Natalie has no inkling about her mixed heritage, how did her father pull that off and her sibling never have any insight into what they are. Characters we are introduced to in the beginning of the book like Nat's brothers and bestfriend are so likeable and then they drop off never to be heard about again as if two different books are introduced. I didn't care for most of Natalie's rude obnoxious behavior with Gavin and then full about face at the end of this first book. The last 20 or so pages were actually very good, but I don't know if I care enough about the characters to find out how it gets resolved with the various otherworld creatures.
I got a free copy of Die By Night through Scout. One of the best things about Scout is its ability to get me to read some new writers in some genres that I never read, and full disclosure, Die By Night fits into that category. That said, the piece itself is reflective of what I have assumed the genre of paranormal romance to be... in this case, somewhat of a clone any number of books with a female protagonist making bad choices in hopes to secure a man they don't need that turns out to be emotionally abusive and also a cryptozoological specimen. I have to give Aisling credit, however, as she did get the book chosen on Scout and managed to present a book with some good plot choices and writing chops. The book just wasn't for me, and when a piece ends with a transition into another book in a series, it is almost guaranteed I will be angry at having made the effort to have read it no matter if the author is an independent or a top-billing bestseller - especially when I am already making an effort to get through something I would not normally pick up. I know a lot of people will like this piece, but it wasn't for me.
Natalie has a really bad day, Her best friend convinces her to go out for a night of fun to take her mind off of it. She ends up having an one night stand. She wants to forget it, but he seems to have a different plan. Then things start getting weirder and even worse.
This is a fun paranormal romance with a good touch of fantasy adventure. But the characters can be annoying at times. Natalie's friends and family treat her like she is made of glass. Natalie has a tendency to not face her problems but instead just makes the same complaint over and over.
The story also seemed to have identity problems. It couldn't seem to decie if it wanted to be a romance or adventure. The two elements clashed more than they meshed. I was partially thrown in what to expect because I found the book listed under sci-fi/ fantasy but it was more romance than adventure.
But despite these problems, I ended up liking the characters and enjoying the story. It was a clean romance without any graphic sex scenes (or graphic violence for that matter). I would rate this as 3.5 stars.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
From the opening through about the first 20%, the story is very predictable, and through the first 27% of the book, it reads as chick lit instead of paranormal romance. While the hero has made two quick appearances by the 27% mark in the book, there is no indication he is to be the hero of the story. A quarter of the way through a romance story is way too long for the reader to know who the hero will be. In fact, as of the same point, it is not even a paranormal romance yet.
This would have been so much better if Gaven's point of view had been included. So many things regarding Gaven left unsaid/unexplained could have been revealed to the reader through his point of view.
Written in first person present tense (Ack! Just kill me now.)
The heroine is such a drama queen. And most of the time, she is a spoiled, delusional brat who insists on staying in denial. Her continued insistence that her daddy will fix everything is juvenile.
For me, the vampire abduction scene gets too close to the absurd in its handling. It should have been terrifying, but alas, no.
The kicker for me is the cliffhanger ending. The story isn't long enough, in my opinion, to require the story to end when it does. To be fair, the author does apologize at the end of the story in a note to the reader.
There are several proofreading issues - needs one more proofreading round to find those last pesky word choice errors, grammar slips, and missing words.
Now having pointed all this out, I'm still giving this three stars because it did keep me entertained, if not irritated, enough to continue to read and be outraged when the story ended where it did.
